Stainless Steel Hand Coffee Roaster
Developed in Tsubame-Sanjo, Niigata—Japan’s renowned hub for fine metalwork—the Stainless Steel Hand Coffee Roaster is the result of a collaboration between skilled metal artisans and coffee specialists who share a passion for perfect roasting.
Crafted from durable stainless steel, its dome-shaped body helps retain heat efficiently while allowing you to shake the roaster without beans spilling out. The finely punched metal surface transmits heat directly to the beans while keeping warmth circulating inside, ensuring an even and aromatic roast. The six embossed points on the bottom help agitate the beans as you shake, preventing uneven roasting.
You can easily check the roasting progress through the top viewing holes, and roast anywhere from 50 g to 100 g of green coffee beans—perfect for beginners and experienced coffee lovers alike. The lightweight 210 g design and easy-to-grip handle make the roasting process both smooth and enjoyable.
Embodying the Japanese principles of simplicity and precision, this hand roaster invites you to experience the mindful rhythm of roasting—connecting you more deeply with your daily cup of coffee, from raw beans to the perfect brew.
How to Use
-
Add 50 – 100 g of green coffee beans and place the roaster over medium heat.
-
Shake it gently and continuously in all directions for several minutes. You’ll soon hear the first cracking sound (“first crack”), and the thin skins (chaff) will begin to peel off.
-
Continue shaking for a few more minutes until you hear a lighter, continuous cracking sound (“second crack”), which signals deeper caramelization.
-
Check the color of the beans through the dome holes and stop roasting once they reach your preferred shade.
-
Remove from heat immediately and transfer the beans to a tray or sieve to cool.
-
Let them rest for at least one day before enjoying your freshly roasted coffee.
